Akava (Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland) and TEK as its member union do not approve of the Government's proposed legislative amendments concerning the dismissal of employees on personal grounds. According to the proposal, a valid reason would suffice for terminating an employment contract in the future. Akava and TEK emphasise that current legislation and established case law provide a basis for employee job security.

According to a recent study, people with doctoral degrees still have higher salaries than those with a lower-level degree. However, the labour market has cooled off significantly for doctors since the early 2000s.
