Quantum technology in particular relies on Bluefors’s cooling technology.

Finnish company Bluefors builds cryogenic, ultra low temperature measurement systems. Its refrigerators cool to near absolute zero, which is –273.15 degrees Celsius. That is colder than outer space. In theory, matter cannot be cooled to a lower temperature than this.

For example, superconducting quantum computers require extremely low temperatures to operate. Cold temperatures reduce noise in quantum computers.

Bluefors is a market leader in cooling technology. Its cooling solutions are installed and in operation in Finland and around the world, used by technology companies, universities, and researchers.

Bluefors systems are closed systems, meaning they circulate helium without evaporation.

The cryogenic KIDE measurement system is the largest of Bluefors’s products. It weighs 5.7 tonnes, is just under three metres tall, and has a diameter of 2.5 metres. Its base temperature is –273.14 degrees Celsius. KIDE enables the operation of quantum computers with even more than 1,000 qubits.
