Unemployment insurance

Membership in an unemployment fund is a safety net in case of unemployment.

Most of TEK’s full members (graduated members) are insured against unemployment in The Unemployment fund for highly educated KOKO, which may entitle you to earnings-related unemployment benefit if you lose your job. The unemployment benefit from the fund is proportional to your earnings and is therefore usually bigger than the basic allowance or labour market subsidy from Kela. To receive the unemployment benefit you must meet the requirements.

Make sure you belong to an unemployment fund

The unemployment fund membership fee is mainly included in the full TEK membership fee. An exception to this are dual members, who don't belong to the fund via TEK and entrepreneursPlease check with us if you have any doubts as to whether you belong to the fund or not.

The fund membership fee in 2023 (and 2022) is 63 € (5,25 €/month) for the whole year, for students as well.

You can join the fund by adding the membership to your own membership services at OmaTEK member portal or by sending a message to our member service through OmaTEK's communication channel. Please note that you must be in employment when you join the fund.

Join the fund as a student

You can join the Unemployment fund for Highly Educated KOKO already as a student when you are in paid employment. You can become a fund member, for example, on the first day of your summer job. You can already earn enough qualifying weeks during your summer or part-time jobs as a student. If you don't find a job right after your graduation, and you become unemployed, you may be entitled to earnings-related unemployment benefit from the fund. The unemployment benefit from the fund is better than the one you could receive from Kela.

The fund membership fee in 2023 is 63 € (5,25 € / month) for the whole year.

You can join the fund by adding the membership to your own membership services at OmaTEK member portal or by sending a message to our member service through OmaTEK's communication channel. Please remember to attach as an identification either your membership number or date of birth.
