Young people’s health and Ukraine drew TEK members’ donation votes

A total of 12,261 members voted in TEK’s council elections held in March, generating more than 36,000 euros to donate. TEK donates three euros per vote to charitable causes chosen by the voters. MIELI Mental Health Finland and its work supporting the mental health of children and young people received the most votes. The election results will be published on April 1.

In connection with the council elections of Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK, voters were able to choose where TEK donates three euros in honor of their vote. The list compiled by the Election Committee included six options: AAMU Children's Cancer Foundation Finland, Children of the Station, John Nurminen Foundation, MIELI Mental Health Finland, Finnish Association for Nature Conservation and Ukrainian Association in Finland.

In the elections held from 13 to 30 March a total of 12,261 votes were cast, generating a 36,648-euro charity pot. The most popular recipient among TEK members was MIELI Mental Health Finland and the donation to children’s and young people’s mental health. They received 3,624 votes and a 10,871-euro donation.

"With the help of donations, MIELI provides children and young people with support in life’s crises, and prevents mental health problems and suicides. Donations help reduce loneliness, bullying and social exclusion among young people. The Sekasin chat service gives hope to every young person and helps solve burdensome thoughts. Every donation is important, because every young mind is important,” the organisation says.

The second-highest number of votes – 2,451 – went to the Ukrainian Association in Finland and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. A 7,352-euro donation will be made to them.

“Thank you for your support – it has a concrete and immediate impact,” commented the organisation’s financial manager Olena Skorokhod.

“At the moment, we are directing all humanitarian aid to one key need: procuring generators and charging stations for Ukraine. They support both civilians’ everyday lives and the continuity of critical functions. Although winter is already over, the energy infrastructure continues to suffer severe damage, and electricity availability is still uncertain in many places. The need therefore remains very high.”

The third-highest number of votes went to the AAMU Children's Cancer Foundation Finland and the donation to children’s cancer research. With 2,008 votes, they received a 6,025-euro donation.

Donations will be made according to the votes cast, or if a voter did not select a recipient, in proportion to the votes each recipient received.
