In their joint statement (page in Finnish), the central trade union organisations Akava, SAK and STTK emphasise that there is no surplus funding in the pension system. Although the financial position of the Finnish pension system appears to be strengthening, this does not mean that there is any surplus funding in the system.
According to Akava, SAK and STTK, pension funds should not be used for any purpose other than that for which they are intended, namely the payment of pensions. As a member organisation of Akava, TEK agrees.
"These funds are needed to pay pensions in the coming decades. The aim is to ensure that future generations also receive reasonable pensions, whilst at the same time ensuring that they do not face pressure for payment increases," emphasises Maria Löfgren, Chair of Akava, in a statement.
