The first teekkaris at the University of Eastern Finland received their tassel caps on May Day this year. The cap has been designed by the teekkaris themselves.

The new cap has seven corners and the colours of the lining are red, black and yellow, in honour of Savo-Karelia.

All teekkaris studying at the University of Eastern Finland have a similar cap, but each student association has a unique cockade. There are teekkaris in three student associations.

Kvantti ry at the Kuopio campus is for students of computational engineering, medical physics and technology, material technology and atmospheric physics. The cockade resembles the letter K.

“It was impossible to include all the disciplines in one cockade, which is why it now represents Kvantti, the guild that brings all the students together,” says the guild's Communications Manager Ella Syrjälä.

The caps of SusTek ry, the guild for students of sustainable technologies at the Joensuu campus, are adorned with the infinity symbol.

“In the future, we must develop technologies and materials that can be recycled infinitely.”

In Joensuu, the cockade on the tassel cap of Epsilon ry, the association for students of mathematics, physics and photonics, features a prism.

“Photonics is the science of light and its properties. The prism on the cockade and the refracted rays of light depict the properties of light in a concise way.”
