Information about strike benefit

  • The strike benefit is compensation paid by TEK to its members who do not receive salary income due to a strike. It can be received by a member who joined TEK before the strike began. Being a member of an unemployment fund (e.g., KOKO, YTK) does not entitle one to the strike benefit.
  • TEK withholds taxes and reports the benefit to the Tax Administration. Dependents do not affect the amount of the strike benefit.
  • Strike benefit is applied and paid after the strike has ended, once the applicant’s membership details and days on strike have been verified.
  • The strike benefit is €90 per strike day. Of this amount, €16 is tax-free, and the remaining €74 is subject to a 40% withholding tax (read more in Finnish). There is no need to provide a tax card.
  • OAJ-TEK members apply for the benefit through OAJ. Members of both TEK and Finnish Union of University Professors apply for the benefit through the Finnish Union of University Professionals.
