Each badge therefore has its own story. Eventually a badge becomes one piece of a whole at the hands of a clumsily sewing, or lazily glueing, student.

At its best, student activism provides meaning, and having a purpose in clubs and associations builds hope. The fact that more and more students from different backgrounds feel welcome and accepted in the community, as TEK's Student Survey demonstrates, is hugely significant.

This spring, the world of Wappu magazines witnessed something unprecedented as MAYDAY, the first English-language Wappu magazine, entered the scene in Otaniemi. “My friends thought it was crazy and that we should start doing it. And here we are,” describes Aaro Kuusinen, a founding member.

Teekkari history. Finland’s first television broadcast was made from the Helsinki University of Technology’s radio laboratory on 24 May 1955.

Over 80 per cent of students in the field of technology agree they feel accepted, can be themselves, and perceive the atmosphere of the guild or the degree association as good. The 15-year wait of the Otaniemi teekkari community was rewarded in early November, when the community ceremonially introduced the new polyteekkari flag at the 153rd Teekkari Tradition Ball. The previous flag that had united the teekkaris of Otaniemi was the flag of the Student Union of the Helsinki University of Technology, which served the community from 1909 to 2009 and was laid to its well-earned rest with the founding of the Aalto University Student Union. This is how the new flag came into being.
