Program

The Science Day will include hands-on science activities, using child-centred experiments and science discoveries to explore chemical reactions in liquids, the flow of electricity in different circuits, the effect of gravity, the wonders of magnetism, virtual reality and robot control. In popular workshops, you can make your own handicrafts to take home with you. LUT Junior University is a partner of the Science Day.

Tutkija Pii (Scientist Pi) – the official scientist of the Science Day – will guide young scientists in workshops. There will be a chance to try out real research tools, without forgetting the artistic aspect. At 13.00, the Science Show by Tutkija Pii will be full of excitement and dangerous situations (suitable for children).

We will also have a chance to admire the Cloud Chamber from the University of Jyväskylä's Department of Physics, which shows us the motion of subatomic particles caused by ionising radiation, or background radiation. Read more about the Cloud Chamber in Finnish here.

You can also learn more about the wonders of space at a workshop organised by the European Space Education Resource Office ESERO Finland (link in Finnish). There will be a real model of a satellite flying in space, which you can dismantle and assemble yourself.

The Science Day program works best for kindergarten and primary school children, but all ages are welcome.

Coffee/tea, lemonade, sweets and popcorn will be offered during the event.
