Unemployment of recent graduates has declined dramatically

The number of unemployed recent graduates with a university degree in technology has decreased by 29 percent over the past year. In January, 83 recent graduates were fully unemployed.

The unemployment statistics of the Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK show that 2,103 people with a university degree in technology were unemployed in January 2022, which is about 2.9 percent of the corresponding workforce. At the end of January, 177 people were fully laid off, which means that a total of 3.2 percent of the corresponding workforce were without a job.

Back in December, the number of unemployed people with a university degree in technology was 2,170.

– Although the changes are small when measured by number, we are still headed in the right direction. The unemployment rate is going down, says TEK's Labour Market Director Teemu Hankamäki.

– In the next few months, we will see how the war in Ukraine will impact businesses in the short term and whether it will have a negative impact specifically on employment rates. The energy and chemical industry and logistics will probably be the hardest hit.
