make sure you belong to an unemployment fund
Most of TEK’s full members are insured against unemployment in The Unemployment fund for highly educated KOKO, which entitles you to earnings-related unemployment benefit if you lose your job. The unemployment benefit from the fund is proportional to your earnings and is therefore usually bigger than the basic allowance or labour market subsidy from Kela. To receive the unemployment benefit you must meet the requirements.
The unemployment fund membership fee is included in the full TEK membership fee. Please check with us if you have any doubts as to whether you belong to the fund or not. You can check your membership by emailing the TEK membership register email@example.com. Please remember to attach as an identification either your membership number or date of birth.
The fund membership fee is 66 € (5,50 € / month, 2021) for the whole year (for students as well). Join the fund by adding the membership to your own membership information at oma.tek.fi portal or by sending a request to firstname.lastname@example.org. You must be in employment when you join the fund.
Join the fund as a student
You can join the unemployment fund already as a student when you are in paid employment. You can become a fund member, for example, on the first day of your summer job. You can already earn enough qualifying weeks during your summer or part-time jobs as a student. Once you graduate, you may be entitled to earnings-related unemployment benefit, if you become unemployed.
Join the fund by adding the membership to your own membership information at oma.tek.fi portal or by sending a request to email@example.com. Please remember to attach as an identification either your membership number or date of birth as well as your employment details.
Unemployment insurance for entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs are not entitled to receive earnings-related benefits from the salary earners' fund (such as KOKO). More information on unemployment insurance for entrepreneurs and the self-employed is available at Yrittäjäkassa's website. Entrepreneurs who become employees must inform the TEK membership register firstname.lastname@example.org if they wish to join KOKO fund.
